Your first day driving is one of the longest ones, but it gets you on your way. You will see much of the west texas countryside and into New Mexico. FOR MORE DETAILED DIRECTIONS, PLEASE SCROLL DOWN.

ABILENE, TEXAS: Some may think the west begins in Fort Worth, but Abilene is where it’s in full gallop.  The spirit of the Texas Frontier lives and breathes in Abilene, which in the span of a century transformed itself from tent city to cultural center, cow-town to college town, all without losing the flavors of the past.

Abilene is located approximately 150 miles from the Dallas / Fort Worth area, so it makes the perfect spot to stop for lunch. May we suggest the Squares Pit and Grill for authentic Texas Bar-b-que? Squares is located at 210 North Leggett Road. Take the Business 20 exit and head north at Leggett. Check out a more detailed map by clicking the link below

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO: Perhaps best know for a UFO crash that may or may not have happenned in 1947, Roswell has so much more going for it. Located in the near perfect climate of southwestern New Mexico, Roswell is a charming old western town in it's own right. You can learn more about Roswell at the links below.

As you are driving into Roswell on Highway 380, you may want to go a little south on NM409 and check out the Bottomless Lakes State Park. There's swimming for refreshment after a long day and camping is also available.

For more on that mysterious UFO crash, check out the International UFO Museum & Research Center.
